Report from a visit on the 2/8 1946 at a reported projectile impact at Garphyttan, &Ouml;rebro County

A report had arrived via &Ouml;rebro Defence district headquarters&nbsp;regarding observations in the vincinity of Garphyttan, of a smaller, round hole in the ground , which led down to a larger cavity, and that this might be a projetile impact.&nbsp;as people nearby observed&nbsp;a light phenomenon a few days earlier.

The place was visited by colonel af Sill&eacute;n, and the chief of staff of the &Ouml;rebro Defence district headquarters.

On the slooping&nbsp;meadow, there was a circular hole, 230 mm in diameter. The hole led to a &quot;cave&quot; 2.2 m [approx. 7 ft] in diameter and 1.5 m [approx. 5 ft] deep. At the bottom of the cave there was loose gravel that had fallen down, and on top of that, a &quot;punched out&quot;&nbsp;tuft of grass coming from the hole. The latter had no marks what so ever and cannot be the result of a projectile impact. In the cave itself, which could have been the result of substantial gas expansion, there were no cracks in the walls, nor in the roof and the soil - densely packed moraine - which was missing from the hole cannot have been pressed to the sides.

By means of excavation,&nbsp;it was established that

At one edge of the cave a path&nbsp;led about 1 m [approx. 3 feet]&nbsp;down to a layer of very moist soil

a vein ran through these layers of soil&nbsp;

the ground beneath [the vein] had been undermined and a cave had formed

a larger animal, probably a horse, has stepped through the roof of the cave, whereby the round hole have been created.
